*JOB OVERVIEW:* This is a "roll up your sleeves, hands-on" small business financial controller position that "wears many hats".
Construction accounting, job costing, and WIP preferred.
Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented.
Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting and administrative operational functions.
Utilizes solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills and possess knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Hands-on accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
Gathers data, prepares, and timely submits B&O, use, sales, payroll, and other taxes.
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is in contact with internal and external customers.
Processes all client billings, collects receivables, and manages cash.
Administers various employee benefit programs, such as medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
Provides timely and accurate reports.
Manages injured worker LNI claims and our light duty and kept on salary program.
Assists president and CEO with general liability and banking relationships.
Typically manages accounting and administrative team of one (1) to two (2) employees.
Position reports to the President & CEO.

* Overall accountability for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting and administrative operational functions.
* Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all company and subsidiary company financial data necessary for an accurate accounting and presentation of consolidated business results.
* Coordinates and prepares internal and external financial statements.
* Coordinates activities of external auditors.
* Provides management with accurate information vital to the decision-making process.
* Assesses current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implements new processes.
* Evaluates accounting and internal control systems.
* Hires, trains, and retains skilled accounting and administrative team.
Makes suggestions to president and CEO about promotions, raises, bonuses, and separations.
* Prepares and files city, state, and federal taxes.
Provides data to outside CPA as required to file income tax return.
* Performs monthly bank reconciliations.
* Processes all client billings, manages A/R, and manages cash, ensuring timely payment by clients.
Tracks lien and bond claim rights an all accounts.
* Responsible for completing research and resolution for priority items in a timely manner.
* Responsible for reconciling accounts and investigating issues; preparing timely and accurate reports.
* Analyzes and organizes office operations in the most efficient manner.
* Accurately and timely processes project invoices to ensure solid cashflow for the company.
* Post transactions to accounting system and manages general ledger.
* Maintains accounting files (which are mostly “paperless”).
* Performs month end close, including full responsibility for accruals, depreciation, journal entries, and financial statements.
Assists outside CPA firm with yearend financial review.
* Cost effectively manages injured worker LNI claims, company light duty and kept on salary program, and retrospective rating program.
* Reconciles and pays applicable use and sales tax, and maintains Reseller Permits from clients.
* Determines eligibility and distribution of benefit materials.
* Enroll and terminate employees from benefits.
* Sets up and reconcile employee deductions (e.
g 401k).
* Communicate with vendors to resolve employee benefit issues.
* Assist with open enrollment process.
* Coordinates human resources procedures to initiate benefits such as 401(k), disability insurance, medical and life insurance.
* Provide benefit orientations, enrollments, and HRA claims processing.
* Reconciles Paid Safe and Sick Leave (PSSL) and Workers Compensation accruals and carries forward and/or clears accrued balances at yearend per company policy and law.
* Assist employees in filing health, dental, life, and all other related and deferred benefit claims.
Implements COBRA.
* Implement new and/or renewal benefit programs (with approval from President & CEO); arranges and conducts employee information presentations and enrollments.
* Obtains statistics and information in renewal process of any Health, Life and Retirement plans, and General Liability insurance policies, that benefit the company.
* Must be able to work independent of direct supervision and in absence of a manager.
* Oversees payroll and A/P team and provides backup, as necessary.
* Support president and CEO in administering the company 401k and profit sharing plan.
* Assist with new employee onboarding.
* Backup administrator to company drug testing.
* Other duties as assigned.

* High school diploma or GED.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is highly desirable or the equivalent work experience.
* Experience in all aspects of Construction accounting.
* Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
* Experience with Plexxis ERP is preferred.
* Working knowledge of accounting best practices, general ledger, financial statements, GAAP, WIP, and percentage complete method of accounting.
* Strong work ethic and team player.
* High degree of professionalism.
* Knowledge of math and basic accounting concepts.
* Knowledge of federal and state regulations.
* Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
